The third item on my Top Ten list is the little black dress. This is the dress that you know you can thrown on at the last minute with a few accessories and look fabulous. If you choose wisely you should be able to dress this garment up or down extending its usefulness in your wardrobe.
The right dress can be the perfect travel companion, when you really want to multi-task your pieces. On a business trip it will serve you for meetings and time in the office when paired with a smart blazer. Swap out the blazer for a leather jacket and your tote bag for a clutch and you are all set for drinks and dinner. You can even wear it on the plane with a pair of sneakers and a denim jacket. Choose the fabric of this multi-tasker dress carefully. You want something that is not going to crease and that you can wash and wear with ease. It's also better to go for a classic style with simple lines. No off the shoulder or statement sleeves as you will find these styles hard to work back with different jackets.
Black is usually best for its versatility, but you can do a colour or print if you don't like to wear black. The most flattering and appropriate length for most women is on or just above the knee.

Mela Purdie is one of my favourite brands for their high quality travel friendly pieces. Even though they are on the pricier side, I find that my Mela pieces literally last for years and will mix and match through the seasons. This dress is light and floaty for hot summer days, but would look amazing with a leather jacket and ankle boots for an edgier look when the temperature drops. Made in their best selling mousseline this dress has a soft a-line shape through the body, a drop waist hemline with a soft ruffle finish and pockets! It also meets my no crease, wash and wear criteria.
Mela Purdie Flared Crystal Dress $325.00 at Impulse Boutique
Witchery is another brand worth checking out for their beautiful smart casual clothes and corporate wear. This dress has a sleeve and will be perfect through the end of winter and into Spring. Made from ponte fabric, this will be a good travel companion and as an added bonus comfortable to wear. The swing style will also be flattering for most body shapes.
Witchery Ponte Swing Dress $129.95
No round up of little black dresses would be complete without a Cue dress in the mix. Cue has been at the forefront of Australian fashion for over 48 years and is the largest local manufacturer of fashion in Australia. This feminine dress would be perfect for a formal occasion or a night out on the town. It has a rose gold zip down the back and would look amazing styled with rose gold accessories which are very on-trend at the moment.
Cue Diagonal Layered Frill Dress $290
